A private social network for your school

Give parents, older pupils and staff one place for news, questions and photos from school life — instead of a dozen chat groups. You approve every member and decide who can post.

Free · No ads in your feed · Public, private or hidden

Sports day moves to Friday 14 June. Gates open at 9:00 — bring water and a hat.

Example

Only the people you approve

People ask to join and answer your question ("Which class is your child in?"). An admin or moderator approves them. Remove or ban anyone at any time.

Announcements that don't get buried

Pin the term dates, the trip form or a closure notice to the top of the feed, so it stays visible after the replies roll in.

Teachers as moderators

Give staff the moderator role. They can approve join requests and posts and remove anything that shouldn't be there, without having full control of the network.

Quick decisions with polls

Ask which date works for the parents' evening or what to bring to the bake sale. Members vote in a tap and you see the result straight away.

Out of public feeds

Posts in a network never appear in duno's public feeds. With a private network only members see the posts and the member list.

Recommended setup

Private keeps posts visible only to approved members, while the About page still tells people the network exists. Approving posts lets staff check what goes out before the whole school sees it.

Every setting can be changed later in your network's settings.

How it works

  1. Create your networkPick a name and an address such as duno.com/net/riverside-high. Choose whether it is public, private or hidden, and add a logo, cover and colour.
  2. Set the rulesDecide how people join (request, open or invite only) and who can post. Add rules, a welcome message and a question for people who ask to join.
  3. Invite peopleShare an invite link in the chat or email list you already use, or invite people by their duno username. Make trusted members moderators.

Frequently asked questions

Can pupils join?

Anyone 13 or older can create a duno account and be approved into your network. For younger children, invite their parents instead. Check your school's own policy on social media before inviting pupils.

Can we post announcements only staff can write?

Yes. Set "Who can post" to "Admins and moderators only" and the feed works like an announcement channel that members can read and react to. Or keep everyone posting and switch on post approval.

Can we have one network per class or year group?

Yes. Each person can run up to five networks, and other staff can create their own. Many schools use one network for the whole school and a separate hidden one per class.

Will our posts show up on Google?

Not if the network is private or hidden. Only public networks have pages that search engines can index, and even then only once there are a few posts.

Is it free?

Yes. Creating a network, inviting people, posting and moderating are free on duno. There are no paid plans for networks and no ads in your feed.

Do members need a duno account?

Yes. Everyone joins with a free duno account, which takes about a minute to create. People must be at least 13. Each member decides whether their own profile is public or visible to logged-in members only.

Ready when you are

It takes about two minutes to set up a network. You can keep it hidden until it's ready, then invite people.
