Guide
How to move a WhatsApp or Facebook group without losing members
Updated · by the duno team
Short answer
Create the new space first (for example a free duno network with your group's name, rules and a welcome post), add a few useful posts, then share the invite link in the old group and pin it. Explain the one reason you are moving (news gets lost, not everyone is on Facebook, too many messages), keep both running for two to four weeks, post important news only in the new space, and personally invite the members who haven't moved. Most groups can keep the chat for quick coordination and use the network for everything that should stay findable.
Groups usually outgrow a chat or a Facebook group when important information disappears in the noise or when some members aren't on Facebook. Moving works when it is gradual and members see a clear benefit.
Step by step
Name the one problem you're solving
For example "announcements get lost in 300 messages a day". This is what you tell members.
Create and prepare the new space
Create a duno network with the same name, add a logo, rules and a welcome message, and choose private or hidden if the old group was closed. Pin a post with the essentials (dates, addresses, links).
Move the most useful information first
Re-post the documents, dates and answers people keep asking for, so there is a reason to look.
Announce it with an invite link
Post the link in the old group and pin it. For approval-based joining, set a simple join question so you recognise people.
Run both for two to four weeks
Keep chatting in the old group, but post important news only in the new space, with a short "posted in the network" note.
Invite the stragglers personally
A direct message to the last 20% works better than repeated announcements.
Decide what the old group is for
Close it, make it announcement-only, or keep it just for quick coordination.

Can I import messages from WhatsApp or Facebook?
There is no automatic import. Re-post the important information and pin it.
Will people actually move?
They move when the new space has something they need. Put the information people ask for most only there, and ask a few active members to post first.
Should I keep the WhatsApp group?
Many groups do, for quick coordination. The network becomes the place for announcements, photos and questions that should be easy to find later.
