Sri Lanka is a small island that is situated right below the Indian Ocean. It is a tropical paradise near the equator. Surrounded by the Indian Ocean, it is a little larger than the state of West Virginia of the United States of America. The very diverse population is broken down as the Sinhalese (majority), Tamil, Muslim, Malaly and European-Sri Lankan. Buddhism is the religion followed by the majority of Sri Lanka, whereas Hinduism, Christianity and Catholicism, and Islam is followed by others. Sri Lanka ended a 24 year long civil war between the Sinhalese and Tamils in 2009, with the victory belonging to the Sinhalese.
Sri Lanka is also very diverse in terms of geography, with flatlands towards the outskirts of the island, and much hillier towards the inlands. It has great fauna and flora, with waterfalls, rivers, lakes and exotic birds and animals.
